Fairfield is a beautiful coastal town with an area of 30.6 square miles and a population of approximately 57,000 residents on Long Island Sound and adjacent to Westport, Weston, Easton and Bridgeport, Connecticut. Convenient to Interstate 95, the Merritt Parkway and Metro North Train Line, a commute to New York City is approximately 60 minutes.

Fairfield’s founder, Roger Ludlowe, one of the founders of the colony of Connecticut, arrived at this coastal area then known as “Unquoway” in 1637 with a band of colonial soldiers. They vanquished the inhabiting Pequot Indians at a bloody battle known as the Great Swamp Fight in an area at the edge of what is now Southport Village. Two years later, Ludlowe established a settlement at a distance from the beaches and salt marshes and named his township “Fairfield” for its glorious and expansive fair fields.

Today, Fairfield is a vibrant community with two distinct business and retail districts along the Post Road and Black Rock Turnpike. Providing plentiful and ever increasing American and ethnic dining options (many Zagat rated), boutique and nationally branded shopping as well as a great diversity of office and retail space, the town is well ensconced in the 21st Century.

Three historic districts are located along the Old Post Road adjacent to Fairfield Center including the Fairfield Town Hall and Green, the Greenfield Hill Historic District with most properties comprised of at least two acres and the Southport Historic District encompassing most of Southport Harbor and Village. The diligent efforts of a conscientious Historic District Commission have enhanced the charm and appeal of the many elegant and irreplaceable 18th, 19th and 20th Century properties which remain resplendent to this day.

Fairfield is renowned for a superb public education system including 11 elementary schools, 3 middle schools and 2 high schools as well as numerous private and parochial schools. Fairfield is also home to 2 outstanding Universities; Fairfield and Sacred Heart.

Excellent recreational resources include 5 town Beaches, Fairfield Marina and Ye Yacht Yard, freshwater Lake Mohegan with Beach, 2 town Golf Courses, indoor and outdoor town Tennis Courts and many private Fitness Clubs. And throughout town, there are numerous places of worship catering to varied religious faiths.

In 2006, Money Magazine ranked Fairfield as the “9th best community in the nation and the #1 community in the Northeast for livability and quality of life”.
