If you’ve been watching any of the home improvement/real estate shows on television, you’ve probably noticed a new contender in kitchen countertops.
Move over granite… here comes quartz!
Quartz is an engineered product using approximately 93% natural stone with the remaining percentage made up of resins and color pigments. This process creates a durable, nonporous surface that comes in a wide variety of colors and is steadily becoming a popular choice in home remodeling.

Featuring more than five miles of shoreline on the Long Island Sound, one of the real enticements of buying a home and living in Fairfield, Connecticut is the ability to enjoy many of Fairfield’s beaches and water recreational facilities.
For sun-loving beach goers and water enthusiasts, Fairfield boasts five wonderful beaches, each having its own distinct features and characteristics. Many beach area homes are within easy walking distance from all of Fairfield’s beaches.
For example, one of the largest (at 27 acres) and best beaches is Jennings Beach, located at the end of South Benson Road. Visitors and bathers of all ages can enjoy the magnificent views of Long Island and on a clear day you can see all the way over to the North Shore of Long Island. Aside from the clean and well maintained half mile stretch of white sandy beach, you’ll find a modern and well stocked concession stand, bathrooms and outdoor showers.
After a few hours of sand and surf, you can walk over to the nearby Sand Castle playground, an architecturally designed wooden play structure for the little and not so little ones, or be a daredevil at the Fairfield Skate Board Park. If you want something less energetic to do, then stroll over to the nearby South Benson Boat Marina and watch the sail boats and motor boats as they navigate to and from a day on Long Island Sound. After that, you can get even more exercise by taking your dog on the beach for a nice leisurely walk. Residents can park their cars in the large parking lot provided they have obtained stickers from Town Hall. Non-residents can obtain daily or seasonal permits as well.
If you are looking a beach smaller and far away from the “maddening crowd”, then either South Pine Creek beach (the smallest-at the end of South Pine Creek Road) or Southport Beach (Pequot Avenue) will suit you just fine. There are no concessions but clean and adequate bathroom facilities.
Last, but not least is Sasco Beach, about 10 beautiful secluded acres at the very end of Sasco Hill Road. A real gem in a cozy and out of the way setting.
Clearly for the sun and fun lover, Fairfield offers a real choice of very different beach experiences. Our beaches have appeal not only in the hot and sunny summer months but are year around attractions as they draw many visitors in the fall, winter and spring as well.
So, try all of Fairfield’ beaches first, find your favorite and enjoy!
Note: More information on Fairfield Beaches can be found at the Town’s Park and Recreation Department’s website at:http://cal.fairfieldct.org/content/2765/2783/default.aspx

They say you learn something new every day. Well, l learned something new last week while I was reading my local newspaper. I never knew that Fairfield’s Police Department has a service called “Are You OK?” As it turns out, according to the article, not a lot of people know about it or use it–and it’s been around for quite some time. It’s a service that allows senior citizens or disabled persons to receive a computer-generated phone call every day, at the same time, to find out if that person is “OK”. If they don’t answer after two calls, the Town’s emergency center is notified and a police officer is sent to check on them. I do volunteer work with seniors and almost all of them live alone. They had no idea about this service, but they do now. So I’m getting the word out to all my friends and work associates. It’s just another great thing about the Town of Fairfield, CT. Pass it on.
